OLIMAI COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE CENTRE (OCHC)
(In memory of Romano Omongot Akol (RIP)

This is a long term heath care project that is intended to enhance the health care of the communities of Olimai Parish and the neighbouring areas and run by me personally and a double trained midwife/nurse to be hired. Uganda has an extensive health care system run by local governments. Whereas these systems exist, the demand for health services like all other social services is far from being met.  There are still insufficient public efforts to equip the health units and there are very few NGO health facilities to help the rural people especially the children and women who are often the vulnerable groups.

As an opinion leader in the community, the people approached me and request that, as I retire, I should help the community to put up a health centre to alleviate their health problems arising from the long distances, and lack of proper service at the public health unit.  This has resulted in children going without treatment, some dying of treatable diseases, women delivering on the way especially at night due to lack of transport etc.

I have therefore, set out to actualize this idea with the guidance of the District Health Officer who is very keen to support me technically since this will supplement their efforts.  The family has embraced the idea and provided land. I paid for building plans, started making bricks and collected other local materials to start construction of the a small centre comprising of four-room health centre building, a semi detached residential building for staff, latrines and kitchen.

OCHC primary target is therefore to improve health care for the community, public health education, and counseling youth and  testing HIV/AIDS patients, act as the a referral point for the traditional birth attendants and provide health service at minimal costs considering the high poverty levels of our people.

To steer the policy and major decisions of the OCDE, we have an Advisory Board made up of the following:
· Amuge Akol A Founder/Member Permanent
